The Waiter Chronicles: The Week of Reckoning

Monday, July 30, 2007

With Grandpa on vacation, I'm going to get most of his tables, starting today.

Here's how the week looks: double shifts on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

I think it's safe to say that by the end of the week I'll either be a bona fide waiter or I'll be fired.

the smart money's on bfw (bona fide waiter). shoot, i'll even go so far as to say not only will you not be fired but the day will come (in the not too distant future - 30 days to be exact) when grasshopper snatches the culinary pebble out of grandpa's hand causing an epic shift in the balance of power to [insert pun here] in favor of our beloved professor-cum-adroit-waiter.

If this doesn't work out, I'd suggest you learn how to cook so you can be a contestant on Hell's Kitchen.

But I think you'll cut it as a bfw...

Funny you should mention Hell's Kitchen. My recurring thought last week was that this experience is a cross between that show and The Devil Wears Prada.

Is there something wrong with understanding your life largely in terms of movies and television shows?
